The vibrant pink, yellow, green, blue and purple curved across the sky in spectacular greeting this morning. The storm clouds were dissipating replaced with fluffy white puffs, as the blue sky peeked through. In the morning sun, the full rainbow stretched my imagination with a beauty unparalleled in my memory.
As we gathered around the table last night for our late supper with the familiar banter of the kids' voices, suddenly the lightening flashed and thunder rolled. Silence. Eyes wide and sparkling with delight, ears were intently listening again. The rumble came again followed by shrieks of delight. Thunderstorms are rare in California, but to the kids it is the sound of all their homes...Pennsylvania, Montana, Minnesota, and South Dakota. As the rain poured so did their memories from across the country...literally--even recalling the storms that we encountered in our cross-country road trip.
The storm show was spectacular lasting most of the night. My oldest daughter even wrapped herself in a blanket and curled on the couch in the dark, watching the show from the window in silence...enjoying the sounds and sights of home...
And no pictures...only in the heart.
